BYD Stuns Japan With Racco K-EV & Sealion 6 DM-i at Japan Mobility Show 2025

Chinese EV giant BYD has made a powerful debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, unveiling two groundbreaking models — the Racco K-EV and the Sealion 6 DM-i. This marks a bold step in BYD’s mission to blend innovation, efficiency, and sustainability for Japanese consumers.

The highlight of the event was the BYD Racco K-EV, a futuristic city car that fuses Japan’s beloved kei-car philosophy with BYD’s world-leading EV technology. Designed specifically for urban Japan, the Racco K-EV offers a perfect mix of compact design, high efficiency, and next-generation battery safety powered by BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery.

Sharing the spotlight, the Sealion 6 DM-i — BYD’s first plug-in hybrid SUV for Japan — represents the brand’s “EV + PHEV” strategy, aiming to meet diverse customer needs while supporting Japan’s clean mobility transition. This hybrid marvel combines electric efficiency with extended driving range, making it a practical yet premium option for families.

The company’s pavilion, themed “One BYD”, showcased its unified vision across both passenger and commercial vehicles — from small electric city cars to advanced electric buses and even the stunning Yangwang U9 supercar. Since BYD’s entry into Japan in 2022, models like the Atto 3 and Dolphin have steadily gained popularity, reflecting growing trust in the brand.

With plans to introduce up to eight new electrified models in Japan by 2027, BYD’s presence is set to expand rapidly. Its dealership network has already grown to 66 outlets nationwide, ensuring strong customer support and after-sales service.

Adding excitement to the showcase, BYD also introduced the T35, a compact all-electric truck built under Japan’s kei-vehicle regulations. Powered by the Blade Battery, it promises unmatched safety and reliability. The T35 will launch in 2026, joining BYD’s already successful commercial lineup — which includes over 500 electric buses currently operating from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

Beyond Japan, BYD continues to strengthen its Asia-Pacific footprint, operating across 20+ countries and offering a wide range of sustainable mobility solutions — from passenger cars and commercial EVs to forklifts and electric rail systems.

Meanwhile, BYD India is rapidly expanding with models like the Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and eMax 7, with the affordable Atto 2 expected soon.

BYD’s showcase in Japan underscores not just technological innovation but an emotional commitment — a belief that the future of mobility can be clean, connected, and full of character.
