PM Modi Celebrates Diwali Aboard INS Vikrant, Praises Navy’s Role in Operation Sindoor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali 2025 with Indian Navy personnel aboard INS Vikrant, continuing his tradition of spending the festival of lights with the armed forces. The celebration took place off the Goa and Karwar coasts, symbolising the nation's pride and the strength of India’s defence forces.
Addressing the sailors on board, the Prime Minister called it a privilege to celebrate the festival with “the brave warriors of Bharat Mata.”
“Today is a special moment — the vast ocean on one side and the courage of our soldiers on the other. INS Vikrant represents the power and potential of New India,” PM Modi said.
‘INS Vikrant Made Pakistan Sleepless’
Referring to Operation Sindoor, launched earlier this year in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, PM Modi highlighted the Navy’s significant role.
“Just a few months ago, INS Vikrant gave sleepless nights to Pakistan. The fear created by our Navy, the skill of our Air Force, and the bravery of our Army forced Pakistan to its knees,” he said.
He further described INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, as a symbol of self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and 21st-century innovation.
“This warship reflects India’s talent, technology, and determination,” he added.
Missile Power and Global Interest
During his address, PM Modi also praised the country’s indigenous defence technology, stating that missiles like BrahMos and Akash had proved their precision and reliability during Operation Sindoor.
He noted that several nations have expressed interest in purchasing these homegrown missile systems — a testament to India’s growing reputation in global defence manufacturing.
A Night of Patriotism and Pride
PM Modi shared that spending the night aboard INS Vikrant was a deeply emotional experience. He appreciated the Navy personnel for their energy, discipline, and patriotism.
“Watching our soldiers sing patriotic songs and share stories of Operation Sindoor filled me with pride. The spirit I witnessed on board is beyond words,” he said.
PM Modi’s Diwali Tradition
Continuing his long-standing tradition, the Prime Minister celebrates Diwali every year with India’s defence and security personnel.
Last year, he marked the festival with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Army near the Indo-Pak border in Gujarat’s Kutch region.
Later in the day, PM Modi shared photos from the celebration on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing —
“Every year, I prefer to celebrate Diwali with my family in uniform — our soldiers who keep the nation safe. This year, I am honoured to be among our brave naval personnel aboard INS Vikrant on the western seaboard.”
