| Record car sales India 2025 — GST 2.0, festive demand boost. |
India’s automobile industry has reached a historic milestone. October 2025 turned out to be a record-breaking month for passenger vehicle (PV) sales, powered by the twin boost of GST 2.0 reforms and strong festive demand during Dussehra, Dhanteras, and Diwali.
A Festive Revolution on Wheels
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic PV wholesales surged 17.23% year-on-year, touching an all-time high of 4,70,227 units, compared to 4,01,105 units in October 2024. This figure broke the previous record of 4,05,522 units achieved in January 2025 — underlining how rapidly the market has rebounded.
Analysts say the GST rate rationalisation (popularly called GST 2.0) has significantly lowered costs for consumers, while new model launches and improved financing options further fuelled excitement.
Top Automakers Lead the Charge
Among India’s leading automakers, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor emerged as the biggest gainers, each setting new domestic sales benchmarks.

Maruti Suzuki Strengthens Market Dominance
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, continued its leadership streak with 1.76 lakh units sold, a 10.48% rise from last year.
Senior Executive Officer Partho Banerjee confirmed that Maruti’s retail sales touched 2,42,096 units, supported by strong performances of models like Fronx, Dzire, Swift, Ertiga, WagonR, and Baleno.
Banerjee added, “Our network stock is just at 19 days. Despite the high demand, our teams are working round the clock to ensure timely deliveries before December 2025.”
Mahindra Records Highest-Ever SUV Sales
Mahindra & Mahindra achieved its highest-ever SUV wholesales, clocking 71,624 units — a 31.41% increase year-on-year.
CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta credited the success to the refreshed lineup including the Thar, Bolero, and Bolero Neo, which attracted both rural and urban buyers during the festive wave.
Tata Motors: EVs and SUVs Drive Growth
Tata Motors witnessed a robust 27% YoY growth, selling 61,134 units. Its SUV range — including the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari — accounted for over 47,000 units, while its EV sales touched 9,286 units, reflecting India’s growing electric mobility trend.
“The Nexon alone saw a 50% surge in demand, while Harrier.ev has started gaining strong traction,” a Tata Motors spokesperson said.
Hyundai Faces Dip but Eyes a Comeback
While Hyundai Motor India posted a slight 3.2% dip in sales, the company remains optimistic. COO Tarun Garg noted, “October was a strong month driven by GST 2.0 and festive enthusiasm. Our Creta and Venue duo contributed over 30,000 units. With the launch of the all-new Venue, we expect momentum to accelerate further.”
Toyota Sees Stellar 43% Growth
Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded a phenomenal 43% YoY rise, selling 40,257 units, driven by its premium SUVs and new editions.
Vice President Varinder Wadhwa stated, “Favorable GST policies and festive optimism boosted consumer confidence. The new Urban Cruiser Hyryder Aero Edition and 2025 Fortuner Leader Edition have received outstanding response from Indian customers.”
The Road Ahead
Industry experts believe this record-breaking month signals the beginning of a new growth cycle for India’s auto market. With the GST 2.0 framework making vehicles more affordable, and automakers investing heavily in EVs and hybrid technology, the sector is gearing up for sustained double-digit growth through 2026.
The festive spirit, economic optimism, and consumer confidence together have turned India’s car market into a beacon of global recovery — a true celebration on wheels.
